Just before 9 a.m., multiple 911 callers alerted police to an active shooter situation. Officers arrived swiftly, sealing off entry points and initiating a full lockdown. Nearby schools followed suit, and those inside the hospital were told to shelter in secure rooms while law enforcement swept the campus.
Authorities determined the event was not a random attack but a targeted shooting between two hospital employees. The suspect, 21-year-old Robert Paljusevic, allegedly confronted his 25-year-old coworker and shot him twice in the arm before fleeing. The victim survived after receiving immediate treatment inside the hospital.
Investigators later announced that the motive stemmed from a personal dispute: Paljusevic was reportedly upset about not being invited to the victim’s father’s funeral. He was charged with assault with intent to murder and several weapons-related felonies. After a two-hour manhunt, he was found at a Macomb Township residence and arrested without incident.
The situation grew more complicated when an unrelated electrical fire broke out nearby, prompting evacuations and reducing power in parts of the hospital area. Although no injuries were reported from the fire, the combination of events heightened the sense of crisis throughout the morning.
