North Korea condemned the U.S. and Israel’s airstrikes on Iran as “an unlawful and barbaric act of aggression and the most despicable form of sovereignty violation.”

A source from the North Korean Foreign Ministry stated in a statement on the 1st, as reported by Korean Central News Agency, that “the U.S. and Israel, who do not hesitate to abuse military force to achieve their selfish, hegemonic ambitions, are engaging in shameless, rogue-like behavior, which we strongly denounce in the strongest terms.”

North Korea added, “It was already within the realm of possible predictions that the U.S.’s military threats against Iran would escalate into an actual military invasion,” and emphasized, “This is the logical conclusion that inevitably follows from the U.S.’s hegemonic and rogue-like nature.” It further stated, “The increase in the U.S.’s hegemonic actions witnessed by the international community this year serves as empirical evidence of their destructive role in collapsing global peace and stability and its grave consequences.”

North Korea warned, “The unchecked tyranny and lawlessness of those who do not face strong retaliation or sufficient resistance are forcing the parties involved in regional situations to pay a steep price,” and expressed concern that “the current Iran situation could have non-negligible negative political, economic, and geopolitical impacts on regions unrelated to the conflict.” It concluded, “The U.S. and Israel’s acts of aggressive war cannot be tolerated under any circumstances,” and stressed, “They must fulfill their due responsibility in restoring the Middle East’s situation to a path of peace and stability.”

Earlier, in January, when the U.S. attempted to oust Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, North Korea criticized it through a question-and-answer session with a journalist by a Foreign Ministry spokesperson, calling it “another case that clearly reaffirms the rogue-like and beastly nature of the U.S., which the international community has long witnessed repeatedly.” While this latest statement is more intense, it did not directly criticize U.S. President Donald Trump.
